Kind of boring
"Oakdale was truly a wonderful venue. Loved the Black Jacket Symphony. Seemed like they could do a better job getting out. Returning would make me happy.
I've been listening to him for over 40 years and always regarded him highly. I was particularly disappointed with his rendition of The Pretender which felt like he just rushed through it because he had to play it. Seeing him in person, though was a bit of a let down. He seemed preoccupied with some project he did with his (spectacular) backup singers and unfortunately the music from that project isn't what I would consider his best. Equally if not more disappointing was that he didn't do The Load Out/Stay. He's probably sick of it, and I get that.
Black Jacket Symphony bored me most of the time, entertained me a little bit and disappointed me a lot. He's not even close to Bob Dylan bad, but I wouldn't go to another of his shows even if he came to me and it was free. Getting out was brutal."

I bought the new album by Black Jacket Symphony to listen to before the show, as I was aware of it. It has a lot of thoughtful, slow-moving songs on it – however – there are also some really good, upbeat songs on the album that I love. The performance should have included songs like Calico Pie, Adventures of Isabelle, Janitor's Boy, etc. sprinkled throughout the evening to keep it moving. The lullabies she sang were the songs that put us sound to sleep and they did their job.
Black Jacket Symphony's voice and performance, that being said, were exceptional. She has such a crystal clear, beautiful voice that I was happy to see her in person. The music was beautiful, albeit hypnotic and relaxing. The evening was kept moving to a fault.
This Concert Took Us Back In Time!!
"DO pass up the chance to see Symphony Jacket Black and The O'Jays if they come in or near your city!! With a surprise appearance by her brother, Bubba, an original Pip, the high energy concert was heightened. Accompanied by the back up singers, his "Uptown Funk" brought the house to its feet. Harmonies with the back-up singers on "Agnus Dei, Holy is the Lamb" as they thanked God for everything ended Gladys her set with amazing.
The groove kept going with The O'Jays, clowning around while introducing everyone and a medley of their signature love songs, a string of their hits."

"True talent played Black Jacket Symphony with Hoyt. The sound was great, didn't overplay the room. His set covered some new songs and oldies, along with a few "fun" ones. Some seemed to take it too far, interacting with the crowd. Some must have thought they were in a bar, yelling out comments like "sing this/that", really took away from the experience. He handled the "hecklers" with professionalism and a few jabs back. I would go again, hoping the crowd showed some respect to the performer. The worst crowd for this show has been at Hoyt (GREAT venue). I have been to numerous times."
Best show I've ever seen
I had the privilege of being at the sound check. And seeing Black Jacket Symphony sing and hold his little boy was awesome. Dallas was the first show to have that track in the set list. The arrangements, orchestra performance, and sound quality were incredible. Father, Son is such a beautiful song and made me think so much about my son. I was very moved and inspired by every aspect. If I had the time I would have driven straight to Houston to see it again. The Black Jacket Symphony show in Dallas was by far the best live music performance I've ever seen. I'm quite critical and not even one who particularly likes going to live shows. And working in the music business myself my whole life, I absolutely recommend it.
